Experiment: Thief

Suddenly got the urge to do experimental work. I sketched out something that was supposed to be a star holding a baby star, but the space in the middle made an interesting shape as I was filling in the colors, and so I made it into a mouth.

No, this isn't a subliminal KKK reference.

I liked the finished product but decided to add a paper texture of some sort. Paper texture was taken from: http://cgtextures.com/

The texture was placed over the finished drawing

layer types were as follows:

upper left: saturation

upper right: multiply

bottom left: soft light

bottom right: no texture, original

I wasn't looking at it, but based on the colors and the style, I'm pretty sure some of it was influenced by this wallpaper I'd found on the Internet.

These monster things are as fun as they look! My favorite shot was the one below here. I really liked the night-time feel of it, and it sort of reminded me of a night rave. :'> Purple lights, that kind of jazz. Also, it had a bit of a magical feel to it, because of the color hues. I'll definitely be incorporating this kind of thing in a later drawing.

Glad I did this, but time to get some sleep. :x

Commission: Mark, to be done by May 10th

Sick and slept all day. My brain hurt and my eyes felt dry in their sockets when I woke up. Mark sent me a text: "Hey, you want to make 20 bucks?"

I figured it had something to do with a website or drawing. Texted him back to call and make it quick.

T____T He gave me a frrkkin' commission due by May 10th.

"If you do a really good job, I'll give you $40."

"I'm not thinking about the money, I'm thinking about my own ability. I haven't drawn in forever. I don't know if it'll be good."

"It better be good."

"When do you need it by?"

"May 10th, her birthday."

"Oh man."

"I kind of screwed you on the time frame, huh?"

"Pretty much. Well, I'll see what I can do."

The funny thing is that it's pretty much a commissioned déjà vu. It's for a female friend of his, but he gave me (what I feel like is) a different version of the exact same assignment he gave me to draw years ago. Except that drawing was with him and his ex wife. That drawing was embarrassingly bad. It's in the dark past now. Maybe this is a chance to redeem myself.

I didn't bring up the correlation because I didn't want to make him sad.

Purpose

Sounds like the beginning of a template. I've decided not to dedicate this as a blog for my art website, because that would probably keep me from updating it. (Ironically)

Instead, I intend to use this as a place to keep track of my sketches, doodles, and experimentations both shitty and good. Also anything art related I might post here. Or something.

For my first entry, I want to share that I finally found the pen for my xp-pen graphics tablet. D; I fucking love that thing. It was funny because I've been so unenthusiastic to draw lately and suddenly, just because I found my tablet, I was able to sketch this in 30 or so minutes. It felt more like fun than forcing myself to practice. (And lately sketching on the computer has felt like a chore)

Gotta love quirks.
